IAMAI-Kantar study reported that 45% Indians still do not have internet access


Internet Users in India: The number of people using internet in India is increasing rapidly day by day. In the last decade or so, there has been a huge jump in the number of internet users. First 2G, 3G, 4G and now 5G services have also started in India. In the year 2024, crores of telecom users of India have left 4G service and started using 5G service, because now they are finding the speed of 4G internet less, but do you know how many people of India still do not have internet. How many crore Indians do not have internet?

IAMAI i.e. Internet and Mobile Association of India and Kantar have jointly conducted a study and prepared a report based on it. According to this report, 45% of the Indian population still does not have internet access. If we understand this in numbers, by the year 2023, out of the total population living in India, 665 million i.e. about 66.50 crore people still do not have internet facility.

Data of non-active internet users is shown in this report. According to the report, in the year 2021, 52% of the people of India i.e. about 76.20 crore people did not use internet facility. At the same time, if we talk about the year 2022, in that year this figure came down to 48%, and even then 71.40 crore people did not have internet facility.

Now this figure has reached 45% in the year 2023, when 66.50 crore people of India are non-active internet users. Looking at these figures of the last three years, it can be understood that the number of people using the Internet is gradually increasing year after year. The rate of decline in the number of non-active users is about 3-4 percent per year.

What are the reasons for not using the Internet?

In this report of IAMAI and Kantar, it was told that about half the people living in villages of India do not use the internet. There are many different reasons for not using the Internet. Let us tell you about all the reasons.

23% of non-active internet users living in both urban and rural areas believe that ‘Internet is very difficult to understand and use.’

  • 22% of non-active internet users say, ‘They are not aware of the benefits of the internet.’
  • 22% of non-active internet users say, ‘They have no interest in using the internet.’
  • 21% of non-active internet users say, ‘They are not allowed to use the internet.’
  • 17% of non-active internet users say, ‘They cannot afford internet, it is too expensive for them.’
  • 16% of non-active internet users believe that, ‘Internet is very confusing for them.’
  • 16% of non-active internet users say, ‘They do not have their own device like mobile or computer at home.’
  • 13% of non-active internet users say, ‘There is nothing interesting for me on the internet.’
  • 13% of non-active internet users believe that, ‘It consumes a lot of time, and they do not have that much spare time.’

What is the number of people using the Internet?

However, if we look at the number of active internet users across India, it is increasing day by day and is also creating new records every day. By 2023, the number of people using internet in India has crossed 800 million i.e. 80 crores. According to this report, by 2023, 820 million i.e. about 82 crore people will be using the Internet in India.
